The operational highlights in brief
- In 2006, the Office of Energy Regulation (DTe) measured the timeliness of the invoicing process of energy companies. Throughout the whole of 2006, Nuon ranked first among the large Dutch energy companies;
- Customer satisfaction in both the consumer and the business market improved in the Netherlands in 2006. This reflects the success of the measures aimed at improving the quality of the customer and operational processes;
- The number of Nuon’s electricity and gas customers in the Dutch consumer market remained stable over 2006 as a whole. The downward trend in the Dutch business market over the past years was reversed. Both market share and supplied volume increased compared to 2005;
- Despite difficult market conditions Nuon Belgium succeeded in limiting the loss of connections in the consumer market;
- In 2006, Nuon Germany started with the sale of gas and electricity in the German consumer market in Berlin and Hamburg;
- Nuon selected Eemshaven (Groningen) for the planned construction of the new environmentally-friendly power station. Preparations for the construction are continuing. Nuon expects to make the final investment decision in mid-2007. The total investment involves an amount of more than € 1.2 billion;
- The wind farm built by Nuon and Shell off the coast of Egmond aan Zee was completed at the end of 2006. After extensive testing the wind turbines will be taken into service early in 2007 and will supply green power to about 100,000 households;
- Early in 2007, after months of construction work, two caverns of the underground gas storage facility near the German town of Epe were taken into operation. This storage facility, which serves as a buffer, allows the company to respond more flexibly to fluctuations in the supply and demand of gas. This increases the security of supply for Dutch customers. Ownership of gas storage facilities fits in with Nuon’s strategy to occupy a more independent position in the gas market.
