Children are the energy consumers of the future. More than previous generations, children of today take energy for granted.
Power Youri
Natuurlijk energie! and MY-NRG
Nuon deploys education packages at schools and in its own information campaigns to raise energy awareness among young consumers.
The successful media campaign Power Youri was continued in 2006. Youri and his little brother Sven light-heartedly encourage children to use energy sensibly. Research from 2006 shows that the campaign has a demonstrable positive effect on children’s behaviour: many energy saving tips from the campaign are actually taken up by the children.
In 2003 Nuon developed a teaching package entitled ‘Natuurlijk energie!’ (Natural Energy!) for primary schools. The package gradually broadened its reach in the Netherlands in 2006. In 2005-2006 the province of Noord-Holland carried out a project at primary schools in the province to highlight energy and climate change. No less than 189 schools took part. As part of the project the teaching package was offered to the schools and virtually all accepted the offer. By now the package has reached almost 24% of the Dutch primary schools. In 2006 the teaching package was also introduced at primary schools in Belgium.
Power Youri spurred the number of visits to the websites Natuurlijk energie! and MY-NRG, the online teaching programme for secondary schools. The teaching programme received over 45,000 visitors in 2006.
