Energy Distribution and the Environment

Continuon Netbeheer is responsible for the management of our electricity and gas grids.

Continuon Netbeheer pursues sustainability through the selection and application of renewable materials and by making the grid suitable for renewable energy. Particularly the integration of wind energy and the decentralised generation of electricity calls for investments in the grid. Continuon Netbeheer commissions the Network Services Division to carry out this work.

In 2006 Continuon Netbeheer delivered a toolkit which makes it possible to take account of sustainability aspects in the selection of materials for the gas infrastructure. The toolkit is the result of the project ‘Productgerichte milieuzorg Gas’ (Gas Product-Oriented Environmental Care) that was effected in cooperation with Nederlandse Aardoliemaatschappij and Gasunie. The toolkit’s model makes use of indicators that were selected by the three companies jointly. It facilitates structured decision-making for the selection of materials, also using information provided by the suppliers. In 2006 it was found that the model requires labour-intensive preparations and is therefore only suitable for the selection of strategic materials. Pipe materials, valves and pressure transmitters were assessed during a pilot.
