Industrial waste - Network Services

Recycling plays an important role in the reduction of the logistical costs for processing industrial waste.

In line with the objectives in the framework of ISO 14001 Nuon wants to reduce the volume of industrial waste through the separate separation and collection of recyclable fractions at source and their subsequent removal to external processors. In this way, the volume of re-usable materials can be further increased. This procedure not only produces less waste, but also saves costs. Recyclable residual materials yield cash income. The ISO certificate of the Purchasing and Logistics Department was renewed in 2006.

In 2006 the logistical costs for processing industrial waste decreased. The RAC (Residual and Waste Materials Centre) of the Purchasing and Logistics Department made a particular contribution towards this. Nuon’s RAC coordinates the residual and waste materials management for Network Services and the office locations managed by the Facility Management Department. Waste from energy production and waste from (foreign) participating interests fall outside its scope.

Synthetic waste was successfully converted into recyclable residual material. The separate collection of recyclable cartridge fuses (materials for switching off short circuits and overloads) failed to meet expectations. Too often these materials still disappeared into the industrial waste instead of into the residual metal waste stream.
