Our Operations and the Environment
Nuon’s business units are increasingly operating in accordance with international standards. The relevant standard is ISO 14001. This system demands attention for all aspects of environmental care. In 2006 a process was started up at Nuon Generation in order to raise environmental care to a higher level. The most important outcome of a study carried out in this connection was that an ISO 14001-compliant environmental care system should also be put in place at this business unit. The work required for this will be started in 2007.Environmental incidents are reported and registered at both central and decentralised level. The number of registered environmental incidents in 2006 was 64. The most serious incident was an oil leak. On 11 October the pole of a dredging ship hit a 50 kV oil pressure cable, causing cable oil to escape into the surface water.
