Diversity

Diversity received extra attention in 2006. The activities were aimed at raising awareness of the importance of diversity for Nuon.

We have three diversity ambitions:

  • Increase the recruitment and advancement of women to higher positions within Nuon so that women are proportionately represented.
  • Increase the recruitment and advancement of ethnic minorities so that Nuon is a reflection of society.
  • Create working conditions in which our employees can make optimal use of their qualities and capabilities in all phases of life.

The aim set for 2006 was to raise awareness of the diversity theme. To this end, a large number of activities were organised to put this subject on the map among the management of Nuon. On 27 October 2005 Ludo van Halderen became a member of the Ambassador Network of ‘Opportunity in Bedrijf’ for a year. This Ambassador Network is dedicated to stimulating the advancement of women to higher and top positions. In 2006, 4 women were appointed to higher management positions. The share of women increased from 22% to 23.2%, whilst the proportion of women in management positions rose from 13% to 16.4%.

Regarding the recruitment of new staff, Nuon teamed up with Young Global People in 2006. This is a network organisation that focuses on the jobs market for highly trained people with a double culture. The cooperation led to activities designed to appeal to ethnic minorities. As a result, Nuon has raised its profile as an employer among these groups. The effects of our efforts cannot yet be measured with sufficient accuracy. There is no uniform registration of employees according to ethnicity. In 2007 we will study ways of monitoring the progress of ethnic diversity.
