E2 for large business customers and municipalities
Amsterdam Reduces CO2
Within the industrial sector, energy saving has long been an important concern in terms of business management and process optimisation. In 2006 large business customers and municipalities also began to show more interest in adopting renewable energy.
Ingenieursbureau Ebatech is an independent engineering unit of Nuon that provides business customers with advice on the optimisation of their energy housekeeping. Alongside advice Ebatech also helps customers with the actual realisation and consolidation of energy savings. Structural monitoring of energy flows is central in this connection. Ebatech has a long-standing presence in the industrial sector and provides advice on construction, process- and behaviour-related measures in the field of energy.
The growth in Ebatech’s energy-saving activities resulted in an increase in turnover of 43% compared to 2005. Ebatech discontinued its activities in Belgium because of insufficient growth in the business market.
In 2006 the Efficient Energy Management (E2) service for the industrial sector was translated by Ebatech into various services with a lower tailor-made component. This means that, alongside the industrial sector, large business customers and municipalities now also have access to online monitoring. Here too, advice forms an important part of the service. Nuon is itself a customer of Ebatech with a view to optimising its energy consumption.
Alongside technical and constructional advice, Ebatech also developed behaviour campaigns for customers in 2006. As opposed to the consumer market, substantial gains can still be achieved in the business segment. Monitoring supports this process by giving immediate insight into the achieved savings.
Since 2005 Ebatech has been supporting the municipality of Amsterdam in the Amsterdam Reduces CO2 Project. Within this project 140 participating municipal buildings are being connected to the online energy management system of Ebatech. With the aid of this system, the consumption of buildings is measured and analysed from a control centre at Ebatech. Whenever the energy consumption deviates from the norm, energy-saving action is taken, such as the resetting of heating and cooling systems. At the end of 2006, 60 of the 140 buildings were connected. The other 80 buildings will follow in 2007.
