CSR Organisation

Nuon has the ambition to take a prominent position in corporate social responsibility.

To give that ambition renewed vigour, the departments for sustainability communication and sustainable development, the environment and safety were merged into the new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department and placed under a new director in 2006.

Sustainability at corporate level

At Nuon the sustainability theme forms part of the strategy of the divisions. The framework for the sustainability policy is set at group level. The mission of the CSR Department is to:

  • Highlight social issues within the organisation;
  • Initiate and facilitate projects that put CSR at the centre of our operations;
  • Coordinate and facilitate Nuon-wide activities: publication of the Sustainability Report, safety and environmental policy, awareness campaigns;
  • Support activities to give external expression to Nuon’s community involvement.

Sustainability strategy of business divisions

Nuon largely controls its operations on the basis of quantifiable parameters. In 2006 the first steps were taken towards monitoring the sustainability performance of the business divisions in a comparable manner.

CSR and the business divisions jointly developed indicators for measuring and tracking sustainability results in the core processes. In 2007 these will be translated into performance indicators for the business divisions. The business divisions themselves decide on the strategic measures to be taken in order to achieve the set sustainability targets.
