Three CSR pillars

As a large utility company Nuon is closely involved with the future of the Dutch energy supply and the role that this plays in our society.

We see it as our mission to balance the energy supply with the interests of all our stakeholders: shareholders, customers, employees, the environment and society. That, to us, is the essence of corporate social responsibility.

Three CSR pillars

At Nuon we practise corporate social responsibility in three ways: energy sustainability, responsible operations and community involvement.

Energy sustainability

We want to assure a reliable energy supply in the future by already taking account of the finite nature of fossil energy sources and the impact of energy use on the climate. This can be achieved by: 

  • Limiting the demand for electricity, gas and heating;
  • Using renewable sources;
  • Using fossil energy sources as efficiently as possible.

Responsible Operations

We take social responsibility in our operations by:

  • Treating customers with respect;
  • Being a good employer; 
  • Assuring the continuity of energy supply;
  • Reducing the impact on the environment and society by our business processes;
  • Requiring our suppliers to treat the environment and society with all due care.

Community Involvement

Nuon forms part of society. We make every effort, together with our employees, to contribute towards the well-being of that society; particularly in relation to energy – which is our stock in trade. We do this by:

  • Maintaining a dialogue with our industry and community;
  • Helping others contribute to the protection of nature and the environment and towards sustainable development;
  • Using knowledge and resources to assist people with fewer opportunities than others.
