Global Reporting Initiative

In determining the information to be included in its Sustainability Report, Nuon follows the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Nuon’s report for this year is based on the new guideline GRI G3.

The GRI is the global guideline for corporate sustainability reporting. The GRI index on this site gives direct access to the information in the report that relates to the GRI reporting elements and performance indicators. In October 2006 GRI published the new generation of guidelines: GRI G3. These replace GRI G2, which was published in 2002 and which Nuon followed in the past years. In line with global sustainability developments, GRI G3 places more emphasis on stakeholder involvement and product responsibility than GRI G2.

GRI G3 reporting applied for 2006

In this report we have applied the guidelines of GRI G3. When determining the types of information to be collected for this report, the G3 guidelines were not yet (fully) known. Wherever possible, data on missing indicators was retrospectively collected. The indicators applicable to Nuon were determined on the basis of materiality and stakeholder information. In the GRI index you will find a list of all indicators with a direct link to the relevant information sections contained in the report. In the coming year Nuon will continue working on the implementation of the G3 version for its sustainability report.

Sector Supplement

GRI has not (yet) completed a sector-specific publication for energy companies. The report for 2006 is therefore based on the general guidelines as contained in the GRI G3 version. GRI is working on a specific supplement for the energy sector. This will lay down requirements in addition to the G3 guidelines. The publication of the supplement is expected in the summer of 2007. Drawing on its reporting experience, Nuon makes an active contribution to the working group that advises GRI on the completion of the guidelines.
